Is the wood on your house starting to look a little tired? If you live out around Sisters, you're not alone. The sun is strong, the snow sits on everything, and the pine needles never stop falling. That's exactly where the Lake family's cabin in Camp Sherman was when they called us.
Here's what Corrie Lake had to say on Facebook:
"Our house was in desperate need of new stain and trim paint. Wade Henry Absolutely knocked it out of the park. He and his team are so professional, thorough and just all-around great guys!"
The Camp Sherman Cabin
This one is a cabin-style home tucked in the pines with a river-rock chimney and pillars. The siding got a dark brown semi-solid stain, and the trim, fascia, and doors got a soft sage green. The natural wood front door, garage door, and cedar soffit kept their warm wood color.
Isn't that green with the dark stain so pretty? It goes right along with the trees and the river rock. On a house with this many corners and dormers, the clean lines where the stain meets the trim are what make it look so sharp.
What Your Wood Deals With Out Here
The sun near Sisters is no joke, so you'll usually see your south and west walls fade first. Snow piles up against the bottom of your siding, and shady lots can stay damp well into spring. And those pine needles? They hold moisture right against the wood. Keeping them raked back and out of your gutters really helps your stain last.
Why Dark Stain Looks So Good in the Pines
A semi-solid stain gives you lots of color and protection, but you can still see the texture of your wood. On a cabin, that texture is half the charm. A darker color also hides dust and pollen, and it blends right into the trees. Add painted trim and your windows and rooflines really pop.
How Do You Know It's Time to Re-Stain?
There's no set number of years. It really depends on how worn your wood is and how much sun it gets. If your color has faded on the sunny side, water soaks in instead of beading up, or the wood near the ground looks gray and rough, it's probably time.
If you catch it before the wood goes bare, the job is easier and you'll love how it turns out. Christy McCulloch said it best after we re-stained her home:
"The house looks better than when it was first stained 5 years ago!"
A Family That Keeps Calling
The Lakes have had us out more than once. Jeffery Lake left this on Google:
"Wade has done 4 houses for us and my son house. Always does amazing job and his attention to detail is second to none."
